On Monday, Oct. 23, UF Law students will kick off a week of participation in National Pro Bono week. This annual event, sponsored by the American Bar Association, celebrates the valuable pro bono contributions of the legal community and seeks to inspire greater service to increase access to justice for all.

The UF Law Student Bar Association sponsored and helped promote a week full of events, starting Monday, Oct. 23 and ending on Saturday, Oct. 28. The Student Bar Association cosponsors include the Association for Public Interest Law (APIL), Florida Association of Women Lawyers (FAWL), UF Law Alternative Spring Break (UF Law ASB), the National Lawyers Guild UF Chapter (NLG), the Immigration Law Association (ILA), the Black Law Students Association (BLSA), and the Caribbean Law Students Association.

The SBA Community Service Chair, Tiffany Campbell, expressed her excitement for Pro Bono week.

Campbell said, “There are so many different areas of public interest laws and ways to give back in the Gainesville Community. I truly hope students take advantage of the many opportunities this week.”

Campbell worked closely with student organization leaders and faculty to ensure Pro Bono week’s success.

Pro Bono week commences with a group service project held on the UF Law campus during the day, followed by a keynote presentation with Justice Barbara J. Pariente later that evening. Other events include a panel on “The Role of Pro Bono and Public Interest Attorneys in Addressing Pressing Social and Legal Challenges,” two clinics, a community service fair, and two volunteer projects.

UF Law is looking forward to an exciting week that will highlight the various career paths that pro bono has to offer. Students are encouraged to participate by using the hashtag #FLProBonoMatters.
